Efficacy of embryo transfer in lactating dairy cows during summer using fresh or vitrified embryos produced in vitro with sex-sorted semen
1) What is the question the authors are trying to answer?
- The authors are trying to determine the difference of transferring fresh embryos or vitrified embryos that were made by in vitro with semen that was sorted compared to artificial insemination to see which one improves calving rates as well as pregnancy in lactating dairy cows during the summer.
2) What is the hypothesis of the study?
- The hypothesis of this study is that in lactating dairy cows, their fertility increases during the warm summer months or in other words, they have heat stress, when using the embryo transfer method.
3) Provide a brief description of the study design.

They proceeded to do blastocyst work on the ETs. The cows had the breeding protocols of Ovsynch56, Select Synch, or detected estrus. They looked for corpus luteums on day 7. Throughout the next 9 months, they checked the cows for pregnancy and kept track of how many were with calf and produced live heifer and bull calves.
4) What was the major finding of the study/ or discuss a particular table or graph?
- What they found out from this particular study was that using fresh embryo transfer that were made in vitro by using sex-sorted semen can really increase the pregnancy percentage as well as increase the number of heifer calves produced compared to using the AI method in lactating dairy cows in the hot summer months.
5) How did this study advance our understanding of
