A psychologist can first make sure that they fully grasp the concept of what is being tested along with an understanding of the test itself. In order for the psychologist to be considered a competent professional in their field, they need to make sure they are experienced through the completion of proper training (2010***). However, competency doesn’t end there; it is used to determine whether or not the assessment is valid and RELIABLE towards the individuals that are going to be tested. In order to make sure the results are not altered, it is very important for psychologists to take the purpose and importance of the assessment into account. The professional should be able to consider the client’s preference for language, on top of making sure the assessment properly REFLECTS the individual’s race and culture when it comes to conducting these assessments.
