Harris, Collard green was not mainly a kind of vegetable, yet it represented the author's ethnic background. Throughout the article, Harris introduced her grandmother to the readers, and most importantly, the White southern taste greens made by her grandma Harris. She implied, "Grandma's taste of her southern home marked me for life" (Harris 107). Grandma Harris' own tradition way of preparing the green has influenced Harris to recognize and value her identity as an African American. Collard green was the symbol of her blackness. It delivers Harris a sense of belonging that I could profoundly correlate to her when I eat white rice. I totally agreed with Harris' point of view with the fact that collard green could tightly connect with her
