It was a pleasure for me to explain and share my knowledge about HPS100 with you the other day. Also, thank you for the email. It was interesting to read about the newly created software, Noumena, by tech company KAN+. However, in my opinion, I do not agree with KAN+ and there are still several errors in Noumena to bring the absolute knowledge in empirical science.
Before I talk about my opinion on Noumena, I think it is better off to briefly remind you about fallibilism and the three main problems of the absolute knowledge in empirical science. Do you remember the two types of science that I explained the other day? The two types are formal science and empirical science. Formal sciences include logic, mathematics, game theory …show more content…
However, I strongly disagree with KAN+ because Noumena is a theory-laden software that is created by human beings with their intelligence, senses and knowledge from the previously accepted theories. In the article, KAN+ states that: “Noumena allows user to experience the world beyond the limitations and imperfections of normal bodily perception.” This quotation signifies that Noumena is developed by the scientists to fix the imperfections of normal bodily perception. However, on the other hand, this also implies that their knowledge in human biology and its related theories are inserted in the algorithm to correct the limitations of the human body perceptions. Thus, we can conclude that Noumena is theory laden. Similarly, when the scientists first developed the cutting-edge algorithms, they would have used their knowledge in mathematical algorithms, computer science and some theories that analyze human body. For instance, in order to identify and filter out the biases and subjectivity of human theories, Noumena must perfectly understand the possible flaws in human perceptions and sensations, which require the knowledge from psychology and human biology. Therefore, the cutting-edge algorithm is based on the previously accepted theory as well. To sum up, since Noumena is an algorithm built with previously accepted theories, rather than the true statements of fact, it is appropriate to conclude that observations and results from Noumena are theory-laden; problem of theory-ladeness remains
