In the largest cities Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam the solid waste generation reaches 6 million tons every year, which gives a sign of the extent of the issue. More than 75 percent of the population is concentrated in urban areas, which make it necessary for the government to start measures to improve recycling and waste management situation in the country. Plastics reduce soil fertility by forming the part of manure for years and spoils environmental aesthetics and hygiene.
