African American were first brought to America to work on the crops in Virginia.After the Louisiana purchase by Jefferson from France, the slave states and the free slave states were divided into sectionalism. The sectionalism was between the north and the south. North was industrialized, meanwhile the south was an agriculture region where many plantation exsist and grew cash crops and productions.By 17th and 18th century the African Americans were one of the major factors for the success of America's economy. In 1820 the production of cotton became more profitable which led to spread of slavery. The slaves were treated very poorly and were provided with very few meals or no meals at all. African American women were raped and men were whipped or punished in public. Slaves were considered property of the white men, and wore old and dirty clothes. Slaves worked for free for their owner for the rest of their lives, and also the slaves children became slaves as well. Every president of United States avoided the conflict of slavery.
