In chapter three of ,After you Believe, N.T Wrights explains the human calling to reign over creation and ultimately achieve God’s vocation and intended image for humankind. In the creation story of Genesis human are given reign and dominion over creation. What does the word ‘reign’ mean in this context. As humans, we need to enable God’s creation, the plants and animals, to flourish; ultimately glorify the image of God. Wright suggests that God gave humans dominion over creation in order to teach us what being made in God’s image is about. This lesson of sovereignty will teach us virtue. …show more content…
Humans were to sing praises of creation to God, the creator. ( 77) Wright states that worship and reigning are two vocation of the people of God. (77) He says this is made clear in the book of Revelation; humans will praise the creator alongside of creation and the world will be as God intended. Jesus came to earth to undo the mess made by sin and reminds us of our call to obedience. In this new world, renew through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, Christians and all humans have an important role to play. Humans are called, through Jesus’ example, to live to their full authentic potential in God’s story. Humans who have been redeemed are called to “reign” with Jesus. What does this reign entail. It is the renewal of the world. (89) As redeemed humans we have an crucial role to play, we must learn to glorify and be obedient in our reign over creation. (90) With our developed virtues and unwavering obedience, God will use the redeemed human race to attain his ultimate image, thus the goal of creation. (90) This renewal of God’s world is anticipated through prayer. (93) Jesus came to earth to help us carry forth our vocations. He asks us to follow him, to partake in our role in the sovereign of creation. Chapter
