Grief in his essay “Against Exercise” explains exercise to be a worthless labour. He expresses rebel against the modern exercise which according to him is merely an act of keeping oneself healthy and fit. Grief further argues that modern exercise has numbers as distinction from old style exercises. Modern gadgets for exercise are all about numbers where the heart rates, calories burnt etc all comes in numerical figures.
He further compares exercise to be similar to visiting a hospital in a sense that both are health related and outcome of exercising as well as hospital reports comes in numbers. While attending a hipster party, Haddow figures out that the intention of being a hipster was to attract photographers and getting attention to become popular. Brooks described about the evolution of geeks in his essay, “The Alpha Geeks”. He denotes, at the beginning nerds were the students with better grades and an outcast from the group of so-called cool boys and girls. But with the development of technology such as Microsoft where these nerds had major role in operating it; they became rich, famous and had high social status; the meaning of nerds got a new life.
