During the summer months this air mass can cover much of the U.S. but in the winter it is pushed in the direction of the equator creating the warmer weather. Maritime Tropical Air Mass originated over warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico and helps produce the same warm water needed to generate heat in order to reach the lower levels of the atmosphere.
