It is a shell of pure silk organza that is moulded with boning and draped with real and embroidered silk flowers. Flowers are seen as an arrangement and an analogy for the conciseness of life. The flowers used on the dress represent a garden; hence, the colours used could mean that it is a bouquet of roses. Mostly, a bouquet of roses has different colours such as purple which signifies a love that is most delicate as well as confidence. One also finds flowers of different shades of pink which symbolise appreciation and gratitude. The whole idea of a flower dress creates the illusion that the entire gown has germinated seeds. It is also strategically thrown to create a vertical, sloping flower bed. McQueen used this dress to express the period of romanticism Britain. The Romanticism era was a period that subjugated much of European way of life, legislation as well as art. It was to some extent of a response to the Industrial Revolution that took place in the course of the same time period. The movement affected and exaggerated the idea of logical and ethical literature, art, thinking and music. Nowadays, the word romantic evokes images of love and sentimentality. However, during the Romantic Movement, this term had a much wider meaning in that it covered an extensive range of developments and advances in all forms of art, such as music and literature amongst others. This term was not used loosely and those who were regarded as romantics would not use this word themselves, rather, it was a term that was applied with hindsight. The Romantic Period explored a number of themes such as Naturalism, Gothicism, Emotionalism and Exoticism. Naturalism was believed to be the utmost highest as it focused on the natural aspects. Naturalism originates from Realism which is the philosophy that emphasizes and accentuates the interpretation of life as its actuality and how it is lived.
