From working with young children and parents, I was a key individual on creating our Alphabet Soup preschool program within Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE). The Alphabet Soup is a program that allows a regular preschool teacher, a special education teacher, and a parent educator in an inclusive classroom of regular and special education preschoolers. The preschoolers being supervised are three years of age. Despite the differences, the school provide as much as possible for every preschoolers to learn the same school readiness skills. The three major components of the Alphabet Soup program are the regular education teacher, special education teacher, and parent educator. Specifically, the parent education must be knowledgeable about school readiness, transitioning, special education, and typical child development. The program will instruct children to work together at least 3 times a week. In addition to this, children will also spend 2.5 hours each time as a whole class. Then, parent education will occur every other week for 2.5 hours. By providing plenty of inclusive education opportunities, the school can provide access to knowledge, skills, and information to all students. The academic content for the children is focused on social-emotional skills, routines, self-help, being with other friends, emotions, etc. The school will act in order to meet the individual needs of the students. For parents, the focus in on understanding the strategies and content the children are learning. Parents will also learn about registering for school, public school system and policies, and guest speakers of school personnel’s. These guest speakers may vary from either a Principal, nurse, secretary, family liaison, or etc. The goal is for parents to better understand who these people are and how they help
