The song starts off by directly addressing Delilah and asking her how she is doing. He then states the distance that is between them, saying that they are 1000 miles away from each other, which may be a slight exaggeration to emphasize the point that vast distances cannot effect their love. Then he uses the simile “Times Square can’t shine as bright as you,” where he compares Delilah’s radiance and beauty to that of the many lights in Times Square, and how she outshines them. The artist then goes on to tell Delilah not to worry about the distance between them, and to listen to this song if she gets lonely. This draws back to the artist main point that distance cannot separate their love. Next is the chorus “Oh, it’s what you do to me,” (first on line 15,) which is repeated four times. However, he says that it may seem far, but that it will not stop him loving her or from seeing her again. He tells Delilah that he would even walk to her if there was no other way. Which again emphasizes his deep love for her and how distance cannot stop it. He also says that their friends would make fun of them, but that it is okay. He tells her it is okay for the reason that none of their friends understand the love that they have for each other, since they have not yet experienced it themselves. This again connects back to his message that he is deeply in love with Delilah. To finish the bridge, the artist tells Delilah that the world will not be the same after their love, because their vast love will change the world.
In the last verse, the artist again addresses Delilah, and tells her not to miss him. He sings about how she will be done with school soon, and he will be making history with his music all because of her and the inspiration she gives him. The artist ends the verse by telling Delilah “Here’s to you; this one’s for you.” (lines 54-55) He does this again to tell Delilah that this song was inspired by her and written for her.
In conclusion, this song uses multiple rhetorical strategies to convoy its message, which is that the artist is in love with Delilah, and he wants to tell her and the world what she means to him. The artist also does not let the distance that is
