genocide. It is originally a book that was written by Romeo Dallaire; who is a Canadian humanitarian,
and retired senator, that served as a force commander of UNAMIR (United Nations Assistance Mission
for Rwanda). The movie shows tragic scenes of how the feud between the Hutus and Tutsis affected
their way of living harshly. Overall, the validity of the film is quite high, however, it contains some
additional incorrect facts. Therefore, the accuracy of most of the information in “Shake Hands with the
Devil” is reliable.

An example is one that is by the character who played the Prime
Minister; Madame Agathe; “It is hard to love a child that is not so beautiful”. During that scene,
General or peacekeeper; Roméo Dallaire, is having a conversation with Madam Agathe about how
much she loves Rwanda even though the warring parties destroyed how beautiful it once was. The
‘child’ that is not so beautiful that is used in the quote, symbolizes Rwanda, and how hard it is to be
happy living in it, when it’s people are fighting for their lives while the civil war or genocide is
happening. Another important quote that is said in the film is by General Dallaire. “Machetes cutting
off arms is also a genocide” the meaning behind this quote is that just because the genocide was not
called “acts of genocide” to the world, does not make it unimportant. In the movie, there is a lot of
scenes when Dallaire tries to seek help from other powerful countries around the world like; Belgium,
or the United States who refuse to provide any sort of support for the dying people in the genocide. He
is trying to ‘make’ the world realize how savage the genocide is, and how blind or selfish they are. …show more content…
The severity of this film in specific shows how there was no life to Rwanda
after the genocide was over. Thousands of people died daily because of a simple social or economic
divide that the Hutus took very seriously. The monstrous souls that the ‘rebel’ Hutus had, destroyed
countless Tutsis and their lives. This specific portion of history is highly significant to warrant a film
for many reasons. One is because it shows the vicious way people were living because of an economic
divide that was created between them. Many people go through social or economic divides in their
everyday lives that encounter them to live in an inhumane world. “Shake Hands with the Devil”,
displays how simple conflicts can turn into murderous actions between people. There are many severe
situations in the world that are currently happening or had already happened because of division of
color, income, or social status. What makes this movie of the history of the Rwandan genocide
