This article explained the formation and organization of civilizations. As referenced in the article, civilization is the highest cultural grouping of a people and the broadest level of cultural identity. All civilizations derive from a common birthplace and exhibit a patrilineal or matrilineal society. Ancient Kent had controversial views as to being patrilineal or matrilineal until the research of Cheika Anta Diop proved otherwise. According to the Monogenetic theory, it is evident that mankind is born in Africa in or around the area of Kenya throughout South Africa. After the culture/society has passed through these stages, they are identified as a civilization. The civilization will be distinguished by having a patriarchal or matriarchal status. Societies controlled by a King are considered to be patriarchal and that of a queen is considered to be matriarchal. During the 19th dynasty, ancient Kent was occupied and ruled by a population from lower Kent called the Hykos. The Hykos were Asiatic people who migrated into Kent from lands northeast of Kent. They were well organized, equipped, and warlike people who dominated the people of Kent for 150 years. In addition to controlling the people of Kent, women in this era were identified as property. They had to obey their husband’s orders or risk being mistreated. The code of Hammurabi consists of laws and punishment to those who do not conform. This code helped organize and maintain structure to early civilizations. In reference to the article, the Hammurabi code states that women and children were considered property and could be sold or leased according to their husband’s discretion.
