No matter where you look in today’s cities, towns, and communities, one can see similarities of the architecture to those of ancient times. Many of today’s building all across the country have similarities to buildings of the ancient world and does not just appear in the realm of religious institutions, banks, or government buildings. Buildings at Colleges, insurance companies, banquet halls, auditoriums, palaces, temples, castles, monasteries, and even convention centers for example are designed and built to resemble and lay tribute to structures of the past. When exploring the Cathedral of St. Raphael in downtown Dubuque, it is evident that the design and architecture was inspired by ancient structures from the past. The Byzantine period…
Through the last thirty years of men’s international soccer there have been many teams to rise on the back of a single star. This player usually has the ability to make all of the players around him play better than ever before. A player in this position is generally thrust into the spotlight at an early age, usually mid to late teens, and if they are not the best at focusing, they are not given the time to develop their skills as they keep progressing through the ranks. I believe that this puts an extreme amount of pressure on a young athlete and can cause them to become uninspired in their pursuit of becoming the best in the sport they love. I think that too much pressure does not create an environment that will allow a young star to develop into anything other than a flop.…
When thinking of hip-hip, one may not expect to see a Mexican woman, from Australia, having a part in its influence in Los Angeles. In fact, hip-hop being a genre of music that is highly dominated by men, makes it a rare sight for when women do share a role in its musical impact, especially a Mexican one at that. Nonetheless, Maya Jupitar is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the generalized definition of what modern hip-hop has become. She has flipped the script on hip-hop music and instead has put her own unique twist in her artistry as a rapper. Maya Jupiter is the epitome of what it means to not only define music in a new and invigorating way, but also to produce musical hybridity that offers innovation to a specific genre.…
The magnificent structural and architectural remains that still predominate through the forest canopy are testimony to the great achievements made by the Mayan culture in Mesoamerica. The geographic range of the Mayans include portions of the Mexican states ofChiapas and Tabasco, the Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala, Belize, and the western portions of Honduras and El Salvador (Coe 1966:17). The area in which the ancient Maya lived and modem Maya peoples still inhabit is called Mesoamerica, yet this area is not limited to just Mayan…

Artistic works have gone through extensive changes and transitions throughout time. Each time period develops a style that sometimes is carried on or merely tweaked in the next time period, and others times is snuffed out completely. By studying specific pieces from successive time periods, one can develop a sense for these changes of style as well as the reasoning behind them. Pieces from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Greek, and Roman periods are great examples of this. The Hall of Bulls is located deep within the caves of Lascaux, France and is an interesting example of Paleolithic art.…
The Great Pyramid of Giza The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World inspired awe and fascination during their time. now let's get to the point there are a total of seven wonders in the world each as beautiful as the next, for example the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, it was built by nebuchadnezzar the second for one of his wives. Furthermore think about how magnificent The Statue of Zeus it was beautifully sculptured with hand crafted ivory which they molded with vinegar, now the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was dedicated to the greek goddess Artemis and was designed by Chersiphron.…
The history of the Maya civilization does not follow a straightforward path. Maya cities and regions advanced, collapsed, and had varying levels of influence at different time periods. Maya society was rigidly divided between nobles, commoners, serfs, and slaves. The Maya were led by dynastic rulers, the population grew dramatically, art and culture flourished, and the elite classes became more entrenched. The noble class was complex and specialized.…
The Maya DBQ Essay I believe the calendars were the most remarkable based on scale, effort, genius, and significance. The other achievements the Mayans accomplished where amazing but I believe this one was the greatest because we still used the Mayan calendars up in till 2012. The Mayans achievements also included their Trade Network, their buildings, the number system and of course the calendars.…
Thesis 1: “Ancient Egyptian architecture has many unique qualities.” While the thesis is straight to the point, it doesn’t sond like it is so much a map to guide the audience on what to expect to come out of the speech. Thesis 2: “The ancient hieroglyphic writings on the walls, the decayed man-made monuments, and the numerous tombs, all represent an era of great civilization that is long gone, but has left invaluable art for us to admire.” I think that this will be more effective in the fact that it is more likely to draw undivided attention of the audience as many might have heard about the civilization, but they might not know what it left behind.…
It is very impressive how fast we evolve by creating new technologies and manufacturing new ideas every day. We can send people to the moon, we create buildings that can almost touch the sky and we can communicate with anyone around the world in a matter of seconds. But as impressive as all this is, nothing compares to any of the ancient cultures. All the ancient cultures like the Greeks, the Etruscan and the Romans created perfectly shaped buildings, statues and magnificent pieces of art with a small amount of tools that were available to them at the time. And yet even with their antique methods and tools, the ancient civilizations still find their way to amaze us today with some of their artwork like the Parthenon.…
Egypt’s ancient art has fascinated people for thousands of years. Egyptian art is visually very different from other art around the world. Art in Egypt has been found in caves, pyramids, and even on rocks. Due to the dry and hot climate, the art has survived after many years. The Egyptian art has been used as a window to the minds.…
One of the most dominant indigenous societies in Mesoamerica includes the Maya civilization. The Maya primarily inhabited the Yucatan Peninsula of modern-day Mexico and other sections of modern-day Guatemala and Mexico; they occupied the area from around 1800 BC. The Mayans dominated the area in the time period from 300 C.E. to 900 C.E., which historians consider the classical period of the Maya civilization. The Empire reached its peak—its golden age—in sixth century C.E. Nineteen million people, which constituted three culturally and linguistically different groups, very densely populated the area. The Mayans excelled in ornate pottery, innovative agriculture, astronomical observations, and complex yet foundational mathematics; they also…
