One of the more notable people was Hippocrates who was considered to be the father of medicine and a fountain of medical wisdom during the first century BC. His medical beliefs were widely accepted and no one discovered or believed in any other theories. This was until Asclepiades of Bithynia, a very famous physician of Rome, came about. He believed that disease came about when pores became clogged. He was the first to devise a brand new medical paradigm after Hippocrates. It seemed very common to write books of medicine at this time. There were a few especially notable books of the time. The first being Liber Medicinalis, a compilation of medical prescriptions, written by Quintus Serenus Sammonicus. This book belongs to a collection of works on the pharmacology of plants. Theodorus Priscianus also wrote books containing collections of household remedies. The last more notable person of the time was Oribasus. He studied medicine in Alexandria and became the personal physician to Julian the Apostate. After Julian's death, he was exiled but was later recalled by Emperor Valens. He then dedicated himself to medical writing and practice until death. His books are of great importance because they contain many excerpts from writers who's works were lost. The books and journals written during Roman times are now important resources in learning about how medicine has improved
