The word “angel” is usually implied that someone is thought of as innocent and bringer of happiness and beauty; however, in reality, angels are warriors of God. The sole purpose of angels is to fight and protect. Angels weren’t given morals like humans, the actions they do are in the name of God, meaning they are as ruthless or even more ruthless than God. The true presence of an angel cannot be viewed by the human eye; either they aren’t perceived, or their physical bodies are so intense that human eyes are burned out of their sockets. God always expresses his wrath through nature and natural disasters; however, the natural disasters could be the angels sent out to do the destruction. In the painting, the fire could be the angels since they share some similar characteristics; fire can sometimes being too bright to look at and can cause temporary blindness. In addition to fire, there are also books in the painting. Books are symbols for knowledge. Having the knowledge gained at the commune seems to be getting the girls closer to God; however, God seems to be restricting the knowledge one can have. If someone were to exceed that limit, they would have more insight on the world, but less to connect back to God.
