Ancient Cultures Comparison Every idea has a beginning and every beginning can expand into something greater. Thoughts and ideas were started by ancient civilizations. These ancient civilizations are the base of all modern knowledge. The earliest of civilizations consisted of core advancements that defined the communities that inhabited within it. These communities were driven by factors that would decide the overall outcome of the civilization. Ancient cultures had to overcome a variety of challenges to grow into civilization. Mesopotamian and Indian religion, technology and accomplishments, and women have all influenced methods and modern civilizations around the world. Both Mesopotamia and India have faced challenges, improvements, and concerns that have led their cultures in two completely different directions. There were gods and goddesses, the rulers of the sky, air, and more. The most powerful god, the storm god, was believed to control storms and floods. To worship the gods and goddesses, the people of Mesopotamia built large structures, called Ziggurats, where they made offerings to please the deities or regain their favor inside the temples. Sumerians believed that various gods managed different aspects of their environment. They also believed that the gods had families who frequently lived together in harmony, although that wasn’t always the case. Sumerian temples housed about a thousand priests and supporting workers. The human king played a large role in Sumerian religion. Gilgamesh was considered two-thirds divine, and one-third human, or the intermediary between gods and humans. (Hanson, pg
