Children with autism should not be deny this right to be who they are. These children will become adults one day and they will have to preform duties on their own and would need some self-reliance to do so. Weitlauf, et.al. (2014) in a comparative study cited that young children receiving high-intensity applied behavior analysis (ABA)-based interventions over extended timeframes (i.e., 8 months–2 years) displayed improvement in cognitive and language skills over time compared with children receiving low-intensity interventions, community controls, and eclectic non-ABA based intervention approaches. Since, children with autism have a great deal in social and verbal communication, this prevent them from excelling in functional language skill. Applied behavior analysis, helps to develop this functional skill. J.S. Howard, et. al.(2005) published that in several studies, they have found that this intervention does improve on standardized test that showed an improvement in cognitive …show more content…
Children with disability may not be able to do most things that typical children of their age will do but just as all children are expected to learn, so are children with disability. ABA has built into its intervention the process of replication. Replication is the process of repeating an activity or testing a hypothesis until the response reaches it maximum. Kimball, (2002 ) claims that even with all its criticism, ABA is Pragmatism, that is, it ask questions such as How and what? This done so that children who will be receiving this kind of intervention have the best possible chances of appropriate education and growth.
It is with questioning that, the interventions of treatment can be differentiated. Again, because of its scientific nature, it is takes into consideration the environment that the child will strive. Another part of ABA is that it offers some form of selectionism- in other words it pays attention to natural environment that the child interacts in and examine how that interaction influence the behavior. All of this is document along the way for better data evaluation.
