The opposing argument about euthanasia is based on the premise that patient’s life should be preserved because there could be the possibility of recovery. According to the research conducted in Netherland in 1991, euthanasia only shorten terminally ill patient’s life by a maximum of 1 week. The standard time it shortened their life was by few hours only. This shows assisted suicide or euthanasia is carried out to only those patients who have near impossible chances of recovery and to end the extreme agony. Another argument against euthanasia is that it infringes on a person’s fundamental right to live. The argument itself is contradicting as; they fail to see that death is the part of the life. Netherland being the first country to legalize euthanasia in 2002; however shows the research done in 1991 that 0.8 of euthanasia was done without the consent of patient. After the legalizing the practice of euthanasia, it now has a reverse effect that cut the unacceptable practice to no consent euthanasia.
