Some may think that the more freedom people have to own guns, the more dangerous the country will get. In Switzerland, they require every home to hold a gun. They also have the lowest crime rate in the world, (Nikhil Ghimore). This proves that more guns owned by more people means lower crime rates. If every home were to have a firearm, that would decrease the crime rates because criminals would know that everybody has a form of protection for themselves.Although some believe that gun control becoming more strict would keep the country safer, it really wouldn’t because citizens wouldn’t be able to protect themselves, making crime easier. …show more content…
Leading criminologist Gary Kleck found that American gun owners use their guns almost 2.5 million times a year to ward off criminal attacks. (Sharon Harris qt. in Gary Kleck). That’s once every 13 seconds. This shows us that guns are used more for defence than offence. When watching the news, we only see gun situations where people were killed or injured. We never see those instances where someone held out a gun and sent the criminal running. If gun control were to further restrict good people from owning guns, there would be a lot more gun crimes than ever, because a lot more criminals would gain a lot of more
