The 2nd amendment says, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of people to keep and bear arms shall not infringed.” This put into the Bill of Rights by the Founding Fathers. Reason is they were scared that the Federal Government might keep the population if they didn’t have the means to defend themselves together as a nation or as by themselves as individuals. Brady Bill would be one example. The Brady Bill was named after James Brady. James Brady was fatally shot in 1981 by John Hinckley during an assassination that was attempted on President Reagan. All supporters of the Brady Bill used that fatal incident to help get lots of support for their gun control. It claimed that it would decrease crime and save a lot of lives. Although the fact is that the background checks and waiting period also in the Brady Bill wouldn’t have stopped Hinckley from purchasing a handgun illegally that was used in the incident. Records stated that a police background was ran on Hinckley four days before he got to buy the revolver and before he got to use it to shoot President Reagan and Jim Brady.
