It is horrific looking at this wild animal who usually appears strong, frightening, and fearless being destroyed and unable to do much about his life. The light on this image is solely on the bear to grasp ones attention and help portray the suffering and struggle the bear has been through. His weary looking eyes gazing into the distance with no hope of further life is a strong visual the author uses. In pain the bear is growling so hard for his life that saliva is coming out his mouth and there’s visible bits of blood on his nose. The poor bear looks skinny relative to a healthy bear perhaps of starvation and a limited amount of food in his habitat. His unhealthy body is squashed with no way out. Noticeable blood is towards the feet of the bear, which makes you gasp. It is not as apparent as other aspects of this image like his growling and the saliva coming out of his mouth. The presence of positive space relative to the negative space has a great impact on the image. The bear, his shadow, and the clock hands are the only positive space in this image. The negative space represented by the void areas of the image accentuate the loneliness of the bear. The author efficiently shows how extinction is terminating wild life. He only captures one fourth of the clock, to successfully interpret that the bear has no life ahead of him. Once the clock strikes twelve, it will be the end. The minute hand scratched by the bear’s impulsiveness to fight off extinction directs the audience to the left corner of the image that reads, “Every 60 seconds a species dies out” and below, “each minute counts each donation helps bund.net.” Even though these words are all in capital letters, they are not the first thing to grasp your attention. They are light and white in color insinuating that words are not as powerful as the image. The author would not have gotten through his point just with these letter therefore he used a powerful image to do so. This image has capability to arouse compassion to everyone differently and gets us to profoundly analyze the image and feel guilt which leads to wanting to help and donate. That’s why these words are just plainly written in white at the top of the image. Eventually, due to the powerful image is in charge of getting the viewer interested to investigate how they can help.
