The painting is dominated by a series of repeated lines that move upward and sideways on the tile floor. The repeated lines are vertical and horizontal lines. The lines are perpendicular because there are some lines going a horizontal way and other lines are going a vertical way which create a lack of movement. The people also tend to form lines by showing two people facing a vertical way and three people facing a horizontal way. The lack of movement of the lines creates a mood of unexciting or boring because the people’s facial expression looks dingy. This artwork gives me a sense of a little excitement because I love to get my nails and hair done and this art piece reminds me of the times when I go to the hair salon or beauty salon to get my hair and nails done. However, it also makes me feel wearisome because seeing the people sitting down patiently waiting for their turn makes me feel impatient because I do not like to wait. It also makes me feel dingy because it reminds me of how uncomfortable getting my nails and hair done is. I felt as if I was present in the place of the artwork. The parts of the artwork are successfully interrelated because all the parts of the artwork seem to belong together. The balance of the art piece is symmetrical, which adds a sense of calmness. The expression of Isaac Soyer’s thought of making his childhood friend the focal point or the most important person in the artwork makes it understandable because the viewer can see her dreary facial expression closely. The unity and repetition of the colors and lines creates a lack of movement which symbolize that the people are discontented. The scale of the art piece lets the viewer understand that the artist wanted the woman to be in the foreground so that her mood can be clear and noticeable. The creativity of Isaac Soyer’s artwork is very creative
