The topic I chose was Arthritis. Arthritis is also called Joint Inflammation, Arthritis is a broad group of chronic joint diseases which causes inflammation, pain, swelling, redness, stiffness and loss of movement of the affected joints. People of all ages, sexes and races can and do have arthritis. More than 50 million adults and 300,000 children have some type of arthritis. Arthritis is most common among women and occurs more frequently as people get older. There are many types of medication that deal with the symptoms of arthritis, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs help to stop pain, inflammation and fever. There are numerous NSAIDs prescriptions, such as Celecoxib (Celebrex), Ketoprofen (Orudis), Naproxen (Naprosyn), Piroxicam (Feldene) and Sulindac (Clinoril). These prescription drugs must be prescribed by a doctor. There are NSAIDs that are over-the-counter at a relieve the same symptoms of arthritis this includes Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil). These over-the-counter drugs do not need to be prescribed, they can be purchased at a drugstore. Physical therapy also is a common treatment that people with arthritis. Practicing safe and simple exercises help people with arthritis move their joints without pain. The last and final treatment is surgery. People with arthritis go through surgery if their pain worsens and medication stopped helping. Surgery helps to align or replace the joints that are damaged.
