The computer is without question, the most important and life altering invention of the past century. Unfortunately, due the ridiculous amount of parallel …show more content…
Almost all every phone or computer has a processing system that can be classified as artificial intelligence. Though the computers available today are high tech, scientists have not yet officially been able create a processing system equal to the human mind. The problem is, by the time humans do create advanced A.I., approximately 2040-2050, our planet will be even more interconnected and susceptible to attack. Of course, there are certain A.I. programs already in existence that could have become sentient and nobody knows about it. It can be naturally assumed that a sentient A.I. would be reluctant to let humans know it is thinking because it would definitely be shut down. A perfect example of one such system is the NSA surveillance program, entitled “PRISM” which was thrust into the light after being revealed by the Snowden leaks. This is a computer system with hundreds of thousands of square feet of data banks and processors that can watch and listen to billions of communications at once. The United States government built a machine with the capability of determining the weaknesses of nearly every major country. It seems that most of the world is still in the technological mindset of the 1950s, which was centered around building everything that is possible because we will always be in control. To better understand, here is macro view of the predicament we are now in: Over the last twenty years, humans have built a global network of computers that holds all of their personal information and can access and control nearly all vital infrastructure of every non-third world country. At the same time, humans have been actively trying to create a computer system that can exceed human mental abilities, become sentient, and connect to and manipulate the giant global network of
