Have you ever looked up and wondered how man ever figured out that there are different planets and galaxies around the world and how they the can affect man . In the renaissance era astronomy was expanding in many ways helping us understand the world we live in . with new people finding astronomy interesting comes new inventions or devices that help use learn more about the bodies in space. In the renaissance period galileo was very important along with technology that shaped astronomy. To begin, Galileo was a great influence to science in the renaissance era. He was a philosopher from pisa italy but in the same way he was very interested in space and what was in it ,with his curiosity he invented some great technology plus great discoveries . Galileo invented the the telescope in 1609 and 1610 he made some great discoveries. For example the milky way was one of his great discoveries and it Stated that “the milky way is made up of of innumerable stars”(Rauindra). Also he discovered sunspots as well as the phases of Venus. As can be expected the telescope was used to gaze at star and the moon but it's the results it gave by letting us see that the moon had mountains . The physical appearance of the telescope was very simple it had a “small concave lens for its objective and a single convex lens for its eyepiece”( Wallace ). Another device was the magnetic compass which was mostly used in on ships for navigation. How it worked was it indicated the the ships course relative to to the ships axis and used the earth's magnetic field . Making it easier for sailors at the time to arrive at their destinations .
