In the field of healthcare in particular, it is important to have a level of understanding regarding the relationship between providers and clients, and the fragility of the bonds and trust that must be formed to accomplish effective treatment. When those who are suffering have been neglected from a young age, it is more challenging to develop trusting and meaningful relationships with others while believing that they can get better and are in control at the same time. Without the ability to recognize distress in their own life, individuals will not feel comfortable or ready to reach out to people they know, or even a medical provider when their health is in danger. The consequences of this apparent lack of attachment and interpersonal skills can be devastating and disastrous if left unacknowledged and untreated. Successfully following a treatment plan depends on the understanding and willingness to adjust on both ends of the patient-provider
