In Chapter 5, Bilbo comes to cross roads of whether or not he should kill Gollum, a man who wants to eat him. Bilbo discovers Gollum is a creature who lives in Misty Mountains who use to be a Hobbit. Gollum and Bilbo then have a riddle battle and whoever wins gets what they desire. If Gollum wins Gollum will eat Bilbo but if Bilbo wins Gollum will show Bilbo a way out of the cave. Bilbo finds Gollum's ring that he had misplaced and it turns him invisible. Bilbo crept through the cave following Gollum, Bilbo had an opportunity ”[Bilbo] must fight… to kill [Gollum]... No, [it´s] not a fair fight. [Bilbo] is invisible now” (86-87). Bilbo believes he needs to kill Gollum but comes to the conclusion that it was not a fair fight, Gollum had no sword and never actually threatened to kill Bilbo; Bilbo is a hobbit he is very peaceful not nefarious or aggressive, his hobbit culture helped him make a wise decision in an imbroglio.
