4. If wear is found, replace the rubstrip
R&R T of A
During the aircraft’s next C-check these rubstrips should be replaced. This EA is not time controlled. All operations must be accomplished at the same C-check.
Tech Substantiation
This EA creates a set of guidelines for replacing rubstrips on the 777. These rubstrips are located at near where the fairing and strut meet. The rubstrips are meant to protect other components of the aircraft from being damaged. When these rubstrips wear down, they can expose other components of the aircraft to damage, which could create a more costly issue to deal with. Currently, there are no wear life rates in place for these rubstrips. By checking on the rubstrips at the aircraft’s next C-check, it will allow for wear rates to be calculated.
Risk assessment
A risk assessment was performed per GMM 06-15-05 and the SMS manual. The risk classification for the inspection of these rubstrips shows limited risk. This area will be inspected per this EA and if damage is found it will be repaired prior to further flight. AD marking was considered but would be of no value.
