It is very hard to define emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) (Kirk, Gallagher, & Coleman, 2015). According to Howard (2010), “children with emotional or behavioral disorders are characterized primarily by behavior that falls significantly beyond the norms of their cultural and age group on two dimensions: externalizing and internalizing”. Her positive student-teacher relationship steams from the teacher being able to assist Brittany with what she needs help in. Because of this positive relationship, Brittany is making excellent grades. Trisha, a 12 year old who is in the seventh grade, has an emotional disorder. For Trisha, a positive student-teacher relationship is established because she feels as if her teacher is helpful in areas in which she needs extra assistance in, is nice, and is sweet towards Trisha. This student-teacher relationship helps Trisha make good grades in the classes where there is this student-teacher connection (“Brittany and Trisha,” n.d.).
As perceived through the video and seen throughout the numerous examples of how a positive student-teacher relationship can provide critical success to students with EBD, these positive student-teacher relationships are important. They give the student a sense of importance and belonging in the classroom. In return, it provides them motivation for to do their best.
