Prediction of results
You predicted that: It was predicted that the ventricle has a greater mass than the atrium of the Bufo marinus.
Materials and methods 2
The Bufo marinus was firstly double pithed then opened via surgical scissors and tweezers to expose the abdominal cavity. The heart was located and the connective tissue surrounding the heart was removed so the heart was able to be removed freely. The ventricle and atrium were then separated. The ventricle and atrium were weighed separately in triplicate. Following this, the mean muscle ratio of the ventricle and atrium were calculated and the results were graphed …show more content…
The mean ratios between the atrium and ventricle were calculated to be 2.33 compared to the analysis of other groups being between 1.0 and …show more content…
The ventricle is where the majority of the work is done in the heart of Bufo marinus, as it is the chamber where blood pumps out into the blood stream through the aorta in order to travel around the body or flows through the pulmonary artery to the lungs to become oxygenated. As a result of the tasks this chamber completes, it is required that there is more muscle tissue in order to undergo the pressure required in these tasks.
6. What biological reasons can you think of for the variations between data sets in your comparative analysis figure (Figure 1)?
Variations in the results between each data set could be because of the gender of the Bufo marinus, as females in this species are larger than males this may cause females to have a larger and therefore heavier heart, variation in the results could also be different because of a sickness or disease in the individual specimen. 7. In the case study you are researching the cardiovascular system, how would you explain the roles of the atrium and ventricle of the heart to someone without a scientific
