Bullying is an issue at many schools and it is unacceptable. There are different types of bullying such as verbal bullying, cyber-bullying, physical bullying, name calling, cussing, and inappropriate behavior. Cyber- bullying is a type of bullying that happens on the internet.
Bullying happens at all schools, such as elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and colleges. There are rules and regulations to stop bullying. The 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) also indicates that an estimated 16% of high school students were bullied electronically in the 12 months prior to the survey. (stopbullying.gov)
The effects of cyber bullying are wide ranging. Effects can include increased drug and alcohol use, poor grades, dropping school attendance, experience with in-person bullying, lower self esteem and increased health issues.
Parents and kids can work together to prevent cyber bullying. Working together they can establish rules to allow safe ways for children to be online. When cyber bullying occurs, it is important to document and report the behavior so the issues can be addressed and resolved.
Verbal bullying is saying mean or degrading things directly to a person. The goal is to degrade the victim, while making the aggressor look dominant and powerful. In general, girls perform verbal bullying. “Girls are more subtle than boys, and this type of abuse can be more devastating.
