The investigation broke down user’s usage into three categories or light, moderate, and heavy users. This demonstrated that after the ten month study the light users were only utilizing the CRS in approximately 35% of their encounters with their patients. The moderate users showed to have used the system in 70% of encounters, but slowly decreased over time. The heavy users demonstrated a continuous use of about 50% in all patient encounters.
Conclusion
Having the ability to ensure full adoption of the CDSS and accept full capability of the CRS, there would have to have complete devotion to training. Learning a new system typically is a frustrating and difficult task for many. Busy clinicians and clinical staff do not want to delay patient care and change work flow when it makes them feel debilitated by a new system.
