For example, a man with life without parole costs one million dollars for fifty years. Even though that person may take up space in a prison, the state is saving money and that tax money can be put to better use. The second con to the death penalty is irreversible mistakes. Once someone is put on death row and is executed, there is no way to bring them back to life. Many innocent people have died on death row and it’s on the criminal justice system for that irreversible mistake. One out of every seven executions an innocent person is killed. Since the United States has had the death penalty, eighty-seven people have been proven innocent that were on death row. Today we have better technology to prove people innocent or guilty, but there can still be an error in the process. That’s when an innocent person is killed for the crime he or she did not commit.
