Do you think this conflict could have been prevented?
The conflict could have definitely been prevented. To me it seems that Maria at one point did try to deescalate the situation, but followed up with 'you' language. Both, Maria and Vicki, should be more conscious of their 'I' and 'you' language as it makes a big difference.
Should Vicki and Maria just drop it and not discuss it?
No, it is vital that Vicki and Maria discuss the issue. Sure, it may be a small conflict, but bottling up their emotions is not a good idea. In my experience those who withhold/suppress their feelings, tend to go on rampages when they've had enough, outting more tension on their relationship; if it is still existent.

2. What are the Relational (R) issues of this conflict?
There seem to be issues between male and female members in the group. I think there is gender conflict. Celeste and Jim, probably have had conflicts in the past that were not successfully resolved resulting in a number of future conflicts. I have a feeling as though Jim and Celeste try to avoid each other in the workplace unless it is absolutely necessary, resulting in tension when there is an encounter.
Relationship Goals: are those pertaining to the parties' influence on each other.
3. What Identity (I) issues can you identify?
Celeste questions Jim's authority, and Jim abuses his authority. Why ask someones' opinion if you are already set on what you are going to do?
Identity Goals: face saving, goals have to do with the needs of people to present themselves positively in interactions.

What do you think the goals are for each of the parties? How do you think those goals might change?
The general consensus of the groups goal seem to be that of hiring a new therapist, now as for their individual goals...
Jim: Wants to hire Nikki
John: Supports Jim
Keith: Seems to side with Jim in hiring Nikki
Laura: Laura doesn't say anything, so I am unsure of her views. If I had to guess, I feel she would side with Celeste.
Celeste: Wants to search for a new therapist rather than hiding Nikki
Karl: Wants to do a search before hiring Nikki (sides with Celeste)
7. What suggestions do you have for the parties in this conflict?
I suggest that the parties be willing to compromise, they seem to each have their minds set on a particular result. It is best for the parties to try to put each other in the others' shoes and not abuse their authority. It seems Jim had his mind set, and from the way Celeste responded, I feel as though he has more power; he shouldn't abuse his power, especially when asking for the opinion of his colleagues/associates.
CHAPTER 4: Power: The Structure of Conflict
Please answer the following questions.
1. Write about how you feel about “power.” Talk about times you’ve used your power and when those around you have used theirs. How did you feel in each
