Introduction & background
As part of the summer professional practice, I carried out my placement in GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Sligo. I started the placement on the 3rd of June and finished on the 26th of August, thus it lasted for almost thirteen consecutive weeks. GSK Sligo was previously known as Stiefel laboratories until 2009, when it was acquired by GSK and is now called Stiefel, a GSK company. They deliver pharmaceutical, over the counter and aesthetic dermatology products and are currently the global leaders in the skin health industry. Stiefel laboratories Sligo was established in 1969 and consists of a microbiology department and …show more content…
Materials:
• pH Meter ; 0374_sil_QC_PHMTR
• Logbook ;QA647_011
• Stiefel general test method (SGTM) _2890
• 1.5 stiprox (x2 – one top, one bottom sample *)
• Physiogel cream with increased lipids (x2 – one top, one bottom sample)
• Buffers 2,4,5,7. Method:
• Calibration of the pH meter with buffers 2, 4 and 7 washing the pH electrode between each measurement, and reading with pH 5. This was recorded and printed on a weight receipt, and the slope of the measurement had to be within specifications to pass.
• The pH electrode was then inserted into the top sample of stiprox 1.5, and the pH was read, and the pH electrode was washed, this was repeated for the three other samples.
• The results obtained were then compared to specifications on the SGTM and on this basis were said to fail or pass.
*Meaning one top sample and one bottom sample from the manufactured batch.
1.1.2 Verification, operation and maintenance of the paar density meter in stiefel Sligo (at 20 degrees Celsius).
