First of all, military buildup began with the conscription law of 1905, in while every male over eighteen years of age was required to join the military; Germany also adopted the law in 1911. Two years later, French conscription laws made required service three years long. Secondly, the belief of putting one’s loyalty to their nation over any other public loyalties was becoming increasingly popular. Next, the tension between many European countries reaches boiling heights in regards to imperialism, with European colonies in India, Vietnam and South Africa.
