The three main causes for the Sea Level Rise are thermal expansion of sea water due to ocean warming, water mass input from land ice melt and land water reservoirs, and the change in terrestrial storage (Dasgupta et al. 2008; Cazenave and Nicholls 2010). Although there is evidence of ice sheet growth in the Eastern regions of Antarctica, when coupled with the measured losses of the ice sheet in the West, including Greenland, the evidence favored the direction of increased Sea Level Rise. The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets contain adequate amounts of water to raise the sea level by almost 70 m, so even minimal changes in their volume would have a significant effect on the sea level (Dasgupta et al. …show more content…
Since it is geographically situated facing the bay of Bengal, the coastal areas are prone to natural disasters such as cyclones, storm surges, floods tornadoes, etc. About 80% of the country is formed by the floodplains of big rivers known as Meghna, Ganges, and Brahmaputra-Jamuna, making the area vulnerable to sea rise (Ali et al. 1996; Jorgensen and Fath 2014). Bangladesh is a very densely populated country, with a population of 163.4 million currently, and it is also one of the poorest countries of the world (Ali 1996). With the recent change in climate and the serious threat of Sea Level Rise, Bangladesh will not be able to withstand the consequences of natural disasters in the long run (Ali 1996). The potential future estimates of sea level rise are 0.30-1.5m for 2050, influenced by sedimentation and geological subsidence (Ali
