Everything in this article is formal. The writing style follows a simple formula: the introduction of film main characters, main problem, and criticism. It seems very stiff in a way that I feel that this article has very specific set standards for what type of films are good. The intended audience for this type of genre is older educated people. This is apparent when the reporter Catsoulis writes “An odd-couple caper of staggering dopeness that makes you long for the snap and sizzle of the buddy movies of the 1980s”. Here it’s evident that the audience is supposed to be old enough to remember 80s movies. This line also uses pathos by making the audience remember the old movies when humor was something else.
