“Wang Lung saw that she was afraid of him and he was pleased and he answered before she was finished, ‘I like it- I like it,’ and he drew his tea into his mouth with loud sups of pleasure.” Chapter 2 Pg.27 While reading The Good Earth there were many significant quotes that were relevant to the novel, however this was one of the first ones that I really stunned me. When I read “…saw that she was afraid of him..” I figured that was normal. However, when I read “… and he was pleased...” that was when my jaw dropped and I truly recognized the difference between our current society and acceptance for women’s rights.
