What is an American Pika and Where it Lives Introduction
These mountain dwelling rabbit relatives are disappearing and nobody even knows who they are. The American Pika is a less known animal that everybody should know. They are called a “whistling hare” because of how vocal they are. An American Pika lives in the mountain regions from central British columbia to South Central California. They live around Talus slopes, rock piles, or boulder slides. In addition to where they live, they are also really protective, super furry, and are vegetarian.
Their Appearance
What they look like One characteristic of the American Pika is its appearance. According to Wildscreen Arkive, “The American pika has an almost egg-shaped body and appears to lack a tail, but actually has the longest tail of any lagomorph.” A lagomorph (or Lagomorpha) is a group of animals that includes hares, rabbits, and Pikas. The American Pika eats a lot of varieties of green plants.

The American Pika should be known throughout history. Generally speaking, American Pikas are very vocal, they call to other American Pikas to signal them, and they are also really defensive to their territory. Now that they are almost extinct, scientists are trying to warn other animals so that they won’t be affected by climate change.
