Notwithstanding what others might say child soldiers should be given amnesty because they were forced into the war,or they were coerced by their commanders to stay a child soldier.
A child is defined as any person under the age of 18 years in Article 1 of the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.- Human Rights Etc. There is approximately 300,000 child soldiers worldwide. Child soldiers should be given amnesty and not be prosecuted for their crimes because some most child soldiers are coerced to stay and manipulated by their commanders. According to the article,”Stolen Kids Turn Into Terrifying Killers,” kids are very susceptible to their commanders. It says,” They are easy to manipulate and will do the unspeakable without question or protest, partly because their morals and value systems are not yet fully formed, she said” (O’Neill,2007). This demonstrates how kids are very easily able to do what they are told by their leaders especially when it means that they won’t get punished by getting beat or starved.
