One significant way the people are causing this issue are greenhouse gases. Examples of these gases include carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide (citation). Carbon dioxide is the most important, as it accounts for eighty percent of total greenhouse gas emissions. Agreed on by scientists, the climate’s warming is essentially due to the abundant amount of carbon put into the atmosphere by humans (citation). This gas results from burning fossil fuels and brushland for agriculture, wood fires used for cooking, the cutting/burning of forests, and producing cement (citation). Almost one-third of the carbon pollution in the United States of America comes from motor vehicles, as well. In 2007, a report, also constructed by the IPCC, stated the increase of the globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is “very likely” (with ninety percent certainty) from humans. Global warming caused by humans has been increasing and intensifying heatwaves and droughts. Research found from a 2015 study concludes that seventy-five percent of unusual, extremely hot days are from human-induced warming. One trend they are ninety-nine percent certain of is the contraction of snow cover areas, more thawing in the permafrost region, and decreases in sea ice (citation). The rate at which these temperatures are rising cannot be explained by natural changes (citation). It has been found in a recent study that almost two-thirds of atmospheric and ocean temperature impacts can be traced to human factors (citation).
