A urine specimen can me collected in many ways: clean-catch method, by using a catheter, suprapubic, cystoscopy, and nephrostomy. Edith is a patient that could easily use the clean-catch method. This method is for patients that can understand instructions for depositing urine into a sterile cup. The female patient is to first wash her hands to avoid contamination, then she can be given a sterile cup to deposit the urine into. The initial stream should be aimed into the toilet. A common infection that many women get while taking a long term antibiotic is a yeast infection. Edith’s doctor recommended her to eat yogurt because yogurt helps to restore normal bacteria in the intestines and vagina. It does this because when yogurt is made it is done so my fermenting milk using a variety of bacteria such as: lactobacillus acidophilus, and streptococcus thermophiles along with many more.
