Background
The upper-level management board plans on how to improve health service delivery. The company wants to determine whether the adoption of a clinical pathway would improve patient outcomes: state of health of mind of a person and length of stay in the hospital. State of health was measured on a scale which ranges from 0 to 100. A score of 0 shows that the person is dead while a score close to 100 shows that the person is in extremely good health condition. To determine whether, clinical pathway results in improved patient outcomes, the hospital board recruited a statistician to conduct clinical trials. The patients were divided into two groups. One of the groups was asked to follow a clinical pathway and doctors were requested to treat the patients in the second group according to their training, best judgment, and experience. Two measures which would help to determine whether the treatment method improved health services delivery were recorded. These measures include the length of stay in the hospital and FIM score, which identifies Functional Integrity Measure. FIM score was used to show the state of health of a person.
