The Importance of the Breed The fame of this breed is due to the marbling in meat, which makes it taste delicious. Some cows are significantly different. There have been people who’ve made unique substances for the cows. A very common known substance is Rock Salts. (Dorothy S. Mull 1). On a ranch, cows are seen licking or bitting blocks, there is an explanation for that. The blocks are made out of unique salts, powdered down and then iodized with minerals, that do a number of things for the cows (Dorothy S. Mull 1). The breed comes from the same origin as the Black Angus, yet it somehow came out a red color (Thorpe). It came around in the 1820s, and discovered by Hugh Watson. He decided not to deal with it because he did not feel comfortable using it (Thorpe). There is theory that the color started to come up when trying to breed Angus cows with harder and bigger bodies. They came out with a dark red coat instead of the black coat. Another theory is stated that they bred the Angus cow with the English Longhorn breed, which are red cattle, carrying the gene through generations
