Cold-formed steel section (CFSS) is a civil engineering material that still and always in ongoing research for utilising in building or construction works. The advantage of the CFSS is becoming so interesting in selecting it as a roof truss system and purlins. For having the roof truss system with stable and safe condition, the study of the truss member is carried out by using the cut-curving channel section. Before the cold-formed steel section has been curved, the process of curving is started by cutting the section in a proper way. The parametric study is taking place to determine the suitability of cut pattern whether the cut depth and cut spacing is effecting the ultimate load of the cold-formed steel beam section. The study of …show more content…
By referring the study of the notch on hot-rolled steel, the result of the testing is noted to have the reduction about 1.0 – 41.0 % of variation of cut depth section when compared with normal section. The ultimate load of section with pre cut-curving is decreased when the cut depth is increased. Whilst as, the ultimate load of section with pre cut-curving is decreased with increasing of cut spacing. Finally, cut depth with 60 mm and cut spacing with 100 mm centre to centre is selected for further recommendation to propose the cut-curving of cold-formed steel.

The process is normally used the electric saw and cut along the suitable part of the section. When comparing with the cold-curving process, the cut-curving more economical for large cross-section application and without the expertise involved. In the study, an experimental work was prepared and tested to investigate the relationship between the cut and mechanical behaviour, and effects of various condition on pre cut-curving CFSS of 3 mm width of cut. Fig. 2 is the example of the cut-curving that can be a reference in the study. It showed that the straight section has become smooth curve when the cutting point and length centre to centre of cut
