New Year’s Eve at Knights of Columbus
This January I rang in the New Year alongside family and friends at the hall, Knights of Columbus. Every year since I can remember my family spends their New Year’s Eve at this hall, but this year I was able to tag along. This event was probably one of the most exciting and enjoyable ways that I have spent celebrating the New Year. For admission, each guest bought a ticket at a price of fifty dollars. At first, this price seemed steep. However, this ticket included a buffet, open bar, and entertainment all night.
The night started out by entering the hall, giving your ticket for admission, receiving a raffle ticket, and finding your table. As the night began the participants were open to getting a drink or conversing. After roughly an hour the buffet opened (bar closed at this time), and people were ushered to the line by their tables. The buffet line went smoothly and they did set up a double sided buffet. However, with a crowd of over 100, the line began to back up and people dismissed last did not get to eat until the very end. Food was kept stocked and it was all war, however, participants dismissed last were getting upset. To help calm this situation, the hall`s serving staff could in the future set up multiple buffet tables to help increase the speed of people going through the lines.
One last detail, that as a planner, should be looked at is the conclusion of the event. New Year’ Eve parties are known for participants getting intoxicated. Downtown Grand Rapids has had many issues, as well as many other places. To ensure that the night is safe for all, even for those not attending, participants should be monitored. Most believe that as the event ends, that is where the job ends for the planners. However, one of the most crucial jobs of a planner is after the event has
