Common Sense or Cruelty
How many of you enjoy the taste of a pork chop grilled to perfection, a slice of bacon fried just right, or a slab of baby back ribs smothered in your favorite barbeque sauce? Perhaps the larger question should be how many Americans understand, or for that matter, even think about the process of getting “pork from the farm to fork?”
If you answered yes to enjoying pork products, you are not alone. The average American will eat 46.8 pounds of pork in 2016 according to the USDA agricultural projections. We send thousands of swine products and even the pigs themselves across the ocean. China gets 4.999 billion pounds of pork from us just this past year. In a lighter sense to this essay we always here about how we owe china trillions of dollars but you know, if we wanted to we could just cut off all swine products along off from going there and china would stare to death. They are a country that relies on so much pork to sustain its population that if we did cut them off they would fall over night
Does the end justify the means? God himself said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that crept upon the earth.” So it seems like the three things that need to be balanced are, cost effectiveness, physical well-being and the mental well being of the sows. These crates are aimed at only the cost-effectiveness and physical well-being of the sows and overlooks mental well being. While the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) stance is mostly aimed at the physical and mental well being of the sows they don’t seem to think about the cost. Just because HSUS and others do not agree with the way something is done, doesn’t make it wrong or cruel. It may just be the best option for
